Mother’s Day is less than a month away (in Australia) and it is the perfect opportunity to introduce some cleaner products into your mum’s beauty routine. This coming Mother’s Day might look very different to the ones you’ve celebrated in the past due to physical distancing and the limit placed on social gatherings.
Now that we’re all adjusting to a new normal due to #covid19, I believe Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to give a gift that may introduce some form of self-care and me-time to a mother as she’s spending 24 hours of each day with her children and might feel like she doesn’t have the option of carving out some time for herself. If you’re living in diaspora like myself, and you don’t live close to your mum, you can always extend the love to your friends who are mothers or even show yourself some love by treating yourself to a beauty product or 2.
I’ve compiled a list of some of the things on Mecca that i’m currently loving, have used in the past or i’m interested in. All of the items listed below are on the cleaner end of the spectrum. If you’ve got your eyes on any or if you’ve tried and loved some, do let me know in the comments section.
Go To Lips! This is an easy upgrade from using vaseline or other petroleum laden products to moisturise your lips while at home. As we head into the colder months, you want to pay more attention to moisturizing your lips to avoid any cracks.
Free from: silicons, parabens, PEGs, sulphates (SLS/SLES), GMOs, mineral oils, petrolatum and synthetic oils
Ciate London watermelon burst lip oil. This is a conditioning lip oil that combines the hydration of a lip balm and the shine of a lip gloss. It’s non sticky and a great addition to any beauty routine as we head into the winter months.
Free from: animal products, parabens and gluten.
Lilah B lovingly lip tinted lip oil. Back in the day, the Clarins lip oil is what got me into lip oils that also serve as a hydrating lip treatment. What I love about the Lilah B option is the range of shades available. Most of them are dark skin friendly and that’s always a plus. My favourite shades are b.remarkable and b.bold
Free from: animal products, gluten, parabens, phthalates, sulphates and synthetic fragrance
KOSAS wet lip gloss. Do you see a trend here with all the lip products i’ve selected? I’m generally more of a balm girl indoors and a gloss girl outdoors. As we head into the winter months, i’m all for gloss over balm to avoid the dreaded lip cracks. The key is to select a lip gloss/oil that is also hydrating. KOSAS delivers lip glosses with bright colours. When I decided to start getting more cleaner lip products, my first thought was if i’d ever find anything to take the place of my favourite Fenty gloss bomb…It’s too early to make any definitive statements but I think this might be able to fill the gap. I love the packaging, formula and colour options
Free from: alcohol, gluten, paraben and sulphates
Jillian Dempsey khol eyeliner. This is the first waterproof eyeliner i’ve tried that’s clean and comes in the traditional kohl form.
Free from: parabens, sulphates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, phthalates, GMOs and triclosan
Juice Beauty phyto-pigments last looks cream blush. Hydrating and universally flattering, you can’t go wrong with any of the shades as they’re buildable. My favourites are orange blossom and peony

Mecca Max brow guru micro pencil. This vegan and cruelty-free brow pencil has a micro tip that’s smudge proof
Mecca Cosmetica glow-giver exfoliating solution. This exfoliating solution is currently on my wishlist as i’ve been looking into fragrance free exfoliating solutions that are gentle and on the cleaner end of the spectrum. It is non-abrasive, vegan and cruelty-free. Based on some of the reviews i’ve seen, I would reconsider purchasing this if you have dry skin.
Free from: parabens, PEGs, sulphates (SLS/SLES), GMOs, mineral oil, petrolatum, synthetic colours, phthalates, BHA and BHT, triclosan, silicone D4, D5 and D6, fragrance, gluten, alcohol and talc
Mecca Cosmetica eye cream. This is hands down one of my favourite eye creams ever! That’s saying a lot as i’m not one to be loyal to eye cream products. I love the fact that it is clean, hydrates and brightens my under eye area and can be used morning and night.
Free from: parabens, PEGs, sulphates (SLS/SLES), GMOs, mineral oil, petrolatum, synthetic colours, phthalates, BHA and BHT, triclosan, silicone D4, D5 and D6, fragrance, gluten, alcohol and talc
Mecca Cosmetica antioxidant serum. I initially had doubts when I first bought this serum. When I started using it, I didn’t think it was doing anything for my skin but now that i’ve run out of it, I can confirm that it does hydrate, soothe and improve your skin over time with each use. In case you’re wondering, i’ll be repurchasing this come pay day.

Glow Recipe watermelon glow pink juice moisturiser. If you know someone who’s got combination-oily skin and is looking for a lightweight moisturiser, this is definitely one to look into. During the winter months, it can be layered and used as a serum which is how I like to use it in the winter months. I layer it with my favourite Mecca hydrating moisturiser for the ultimate night time skincare mix.
Free from: animal products, oil, parabens, mineral il, sulphates, silicons, phthalates, drying alcohols and synthetic dyes
Mecca Cosmetica hydrating moisturiser. This is another Mecca product that I’m repurchasing come pay day. I love the formula. I love how the product is dispensed from the jar and I love how moisturising it is. If you’ve got oily skin that can be dry (it’s a thing!), mix in a few drops of your favourite face oil to boost the hydration and luxury factor as you slather it on your face.
Free from: parabens
Glow Recipe watermelon sleeping mask. I’m a HUGE fan of sleeping masks. I love the lazy approach because I can go to bed while it does its job and wake up in the morning with a beautiful glow. The watermelon sleeping mask offers gentle exfoliation and a healthy dose of hydration to reveal glowing skin in the morning.
Free from: animal products, parabens, mineral oil, sulphates, phthalates, and synthetic dyes
SLIP pure silk sleep mask. Add some glamour to your sleep routine by covering your eyes with a silk mask to block out any light while you snooze. I love a good eye mask for sleeping and i’m drawn to the feather print on offer.
Bumble & Bumble while you sleep damage repair masque. For the hair enthusiasts that love to indulge in an overnight pre shampoo treatment (aka pre-poo), this is the perfect hair masque for you and it involves zero mixing
