Five Things I’m Focusing On In September

I’m sure you’ve read this multiple times already but I can’t believe that spring is here. It feels like it was only yesterday that hubby and I moved from Sydney to Melbourne. This is officially our first spring season here in the city of Melbourne and I’m not sure of what to expect. Yesterday was the first day of spring and it was quite warm. It felt like a bit of a shock to the system as I was expecting it to still feel cold for the first week at least before the warmth comes through.

I haven’t always been receptive to the warmer months so I’ve decided to focus on a handful of things every month to get me through. It allows my attention to be placed on something else other than the warmer days whilst being productive. My focus would be on the things that bring me joy and strength.

Working on my interior design diploma. I’ve been studying for my interior design diploma online for a while now and I have about 7 more assignments to get through in order to graduate. In a perfect world, I would love to have all my assignments submitted and my diploma in hand before the 1st of January 2022. The only way this can be possible (whilst working a full time job) is if I put my head down and make the most of the extra time I have in lockdown (yes, we’re still in lockdown!).

Read a book. Raise your hand if you had a long list of books to read at the start of 2021. Keep your hand up if you’ve barely gone through 25% of the books on that list. I raised my hand for both of those. I’m not sure if it’s laziness, procrastination or a combination of both. I haven’t read as much this year as I did in the past. With every month that passed, I kept telling myself I’d read 2-3 books and that never happened. So I’m going back to basics. I just want to try and get through one book this month. I’ll report back later on this.

Create a digital planner for myself. I’ve had this idea for a while of creating a digital planner for myself that has everything I love. I’m a huge fan of planners and currently use a bullet journal to create a planner that works for me monthly. As I find more ways to integrate the digital world (and my iPad) into my daily activities, I’d like to create a digital planner that I think aligns with what I need and want. If it pans out well, I’ll share it here. Do you use a (digital) planner? What’s a must for you in a planner?

Moving my body for at least 30 minutes daily. Towards the end of August, I put myself through an 8 day challenge to get me back into the habit of moving my body everyday. On some days, this meant walking outdoors with my husband for 30 minutes. On other days, it was a combination of an indoor walking workout using @GrowWithJo and also walking outdoors after work.

Stretching out my legs daily. I’ve always wanted to get into yoga but I’ve really struggled because I’m not as bendy as I’d like to be. This means that I sometimes struggle to complete some of the poses. Instead of passing up on yoga completely, I’m going to take the approach of micro goals by focusing on the two most things that I think I struggle with a lot. I can’t sit cross legged comfortably and I can’t sit on my knees comfortably either. So with this in mind, I’ll be focusing on stretching out my legs daily for the month of September. We’ll see how I go and this will lead to other micro goals over the next couple of months.

Over to you. What are some of the things you’re focusing on this month?
