Kombucha and all its amazing benefits

Have you heard of kombucha?

Do you why it’s good for you?

Prior to last month, I’d never really heard about kombucha.

But on one fateful day, while riding the train, I couldn’t help but eavesdrop on a conversation some commuters were having when I heard the words healthy gut. If you know me, then you’ll know that a healthy gut is something I’m focused on this year. So without wasting any time, I went on to Dr Google to find out what this miraculous healthy gut drink is and where I can get my hands on some…

Kombucha is essentially fermented tea! I know…I was truly hoping for a longer, fancier explanation of what this miracle concoction is. Before you scoff and make a cheeky comment, kombucha has actually been around for over 2000 years and is often referred to as the tea of life.

Here are some of the health benefits you can gain from drinking kombucha

  1. it helps the body to go through a process of natural detoxification
  2. it promotes healthy digestion as it contains good gut bacteria and the bacteria helps to ward off issues such as IBS and constipation
  3. it may play a role in maintaining a healthy cholesterol level
  4. it may increase your body’s metabolism when consumed before meals
  5. kombucha has vitamins B and C and may help in enhancing your mood
  6. it is safe to drink while pregnant

If you’re into DIY and making everything from scratch, you can make your own kombucha at home by using black tea and sugar. The fermentation process occurs by introducing SCOBY (symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast). Check out this recipe and let me know if you end up making one.

if you’re like me and would rather have a sip of one that’s already been made before committing to making yours, you can easily find kombucha in the health food section of your local Coles and Woolworths. If you’re not a fan of big chain stores, you can purchase the kombucha pictured above here.

  • Love Kombucha! I get my recycled bottle refilled at a healthfood store each week for $12. My fav is Wild Kombucha by Ballsy. I especially love their Nettle & Ginger flavour! You have to watch the sugar levels in some of the commercial ones too! Great read thanks!

    • Hi Bastille,

You’re so right about the sugar levels! Out of all the store bought ones i’ve found, the Remedy brand seems to be the best in that area. I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for Ballsy as the nettle & ginger flavour sounds tasty.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving us a comment.
