Thanks to technology, enjoying a movie at home (with friends, family, or alone) is easy and almost as good, if not better, than watching it in cinema. Your options are endless: pause easily, watch with subtitles, take a snack break without missing a beat, and rematch your favourite scenes.
I enjoy rewatching movies and TV shows I’ve enjoyed in the past. There’s a certain comfort in knowing that I can rely on them to keep me entertained when there’s a lack of options. With Christmas just around the corner, and an influx of Christmas romantic movies, here are a few options to shake up your watch list this month.
Movies
Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre. This is an action comedy by Guy Ritchie starring Jason Statham, Hugh Grant and Aubrey Plaza. If you’re a fan of Guy Ritchie’s directional style and witty banter, you’ll love this movie. I’m a huge Guy Ritchie fan and you’ll notice very quickly that i’ve got a few of his hits on this watch list. You can watch the trailer here.
The Gentlemen. This is another Guy Ritchie movie with a stellar cast. Think Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Colin Farrell, Michelle Dockery and Hugh Grant. Based on the popularity of this movie, a Netflix series was created and there’s a season two coming out soon. It’s a gangster film with style and some British flavour. I enjoyed seeing Colin Farrell playing the role of the coach. And yes, you guessed right, I’ve watched this too many times to mention. You can watch the trailer here.
The Irishman. Martin Scorsese is the only director/producer who can make me sit still for over 3 hours watching the same movie. This is another gangster film with an Italian flavour thrown in for good measure. Also with a star-studded cast – Robert de Niro, Joe Pesci and Al Pacino to name a few. Get the mini burgers and carbonated drinks ready because you’ll definitely need to eat something halfway through. You can watch the trailer here.
Project Power. Finishing off the list of movies is a science fiction action film with Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt playing lead and supporting roles. I was surprised. You can watch the trailer here.
TV Shows
Black Doves. This is the only recommendation on the list that I haven’t watched. It’s a spy series starring Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw. It’s coming out on the 5th of this month and surprisingly, Netflix has already confirmed that there’s a season 2 in the works. You can watch the trailer here.
The Gentlemen. Following the success of the movie, Guy Ritchie created a series with the same premise: gangsters trying to make a buck while staying under the radar. The series delves deeper into the lives of the aristocrats whose estates are being used to house these businesses, and their dealings with said gangsters. Throw in a great wardrobe budget, Guy’s directional style and the seduction of a good vocabulary bank and we’re in business. You can watch the trailer here.
I’m off to watch The Gentlemen (series) for the 100th time.
