10,000 steps and counting

It all started when I took ownership of a no-name wearable fitness bracelet.

That’s when the obsession started…my need to have walked 10,000 to 15,000 steps daily.

From the moment I put the bracelet on, it has become a personal mission of mine to hit a minimum of 10,000 steps daily. For someone who’s sedentary most of the day, this is a big deal for me. I spend the majority of my day sitting down.

Let me give you an idea of what my day would look like if I don’t obsess over my steps:

  • a 12 minute walk from my home to the train station
  • a 1 hour train commute into the city for work
  • a 7 minute walk from the train station to my office
  • 8 hours spent mainly sitting down in front of my screen before I repeat the commute back home

Based on my little breakdown above, and including a brisk walk during my lunch break, I take about 7,000 steps a day.

Now that I have my bracelet to track my steps, I try to squeeze in a Leslie Sansone 3 mile workout at least 4 times a week to take my steps above 10,000 steps. On some days where I’m totally psyched by my progress, I push myself to do a 5 mile workout and this allows me to take my total steps for the day to 15,000.

I must admit, in the past, i’ve always struggled with getting passionate about physical activity. I never thought that a fitness bracelet would help me get closer to the active lifestyle I wish to have.

Tell me, have you ever had something/someone that has spurred you towards a more active lifestyle? Please share in the comments below.
